Bangla Font

If you cannot see Bangla fonts on this site

1. MAC OSX/LINUX
Download mac-specific or generic Unicode Bangla fonts (SolaimanLipi and Rupali) to read Bangla texts on Mozilla Firefox or Safari browsers. Install the font (see section 4).

2. WINDOWS XP

• Download Unicode Bangla fonts from the web and install them on your operating system. For an expanded list of web locations that house such fonts, see section 3.

• Install Bangla support on your browser. [On Internet Explorer 6: Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> General -> Languages, and add Bengali as a language. On Firefox 1.5: Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> General -> Edit Languages…, and add Bengali as a language.]

• Go to your browser’s “view” menu and set the “character encoding” or “encoding” feature to: Unicode (UTF-8).

• Set your favorite Bangla Unicode font as default font for your browser.
  [For Internet Explorer 6: Go to Tools–>Internet options–>Fonts, choose Bengali from the Language Script pulldown menu and select from one of the available Bangla fonts in your system. For Firefox 1.5: Go to Tools -> Options -> Content tab -> Advanced… in the Fonts and colors section. In the pop up window titled “Fonts”, select Bengali from the “Fonts for:” pulldown Menu and set a Bengali font of your choice.

  (The Lohit fonts are a set of 11 fonts for indic scripts, including Bangla/Bengali. They are available on most current Linux distributions. However, package names may differ, e.g. ttf-fonts-indic for Debian and Ubuntu/Kubuntu, fonts-indic for Gentoo and Fedora.)
