‘খেলতে হলে প্রপার মোহনবাগান একাদশেই খেলবো, ওদের জুনিয়র টিমের হয়ে নয়’

কে না জানে বাঙালের অস্তিত্বের একটা বলিষ্ঠ উচ্চারণ ইস্টবেঙ্গল ফুটবল ক্লাব। এই স্বরটিকে সম্মান জানিয়ে বাঙালনামা শুরু করলো ইস্টবেঙ্গল-সিরিজ। অতীত ও বর্তমানের ইস্টবেঙ্গল মহারথীদের নিয়মিত সাক্ষাৎকার প্রকাশের পরিকল্পনা থাকলো। এই সংখ্যায় রাখা হলো বাংলা ফুটবলের স্বর্ণোজ্জ্বল ষাটের দশকের বিখ্যাত ফুটবলার সুকুমার সমাজপতির সাক্ষাৎকারের প্রথম ভাগটি। বাঙালনামার পক্ষ থেকে সাক্ষাৎকার নিয়েছেন অনির্বাণ দাশগুপ্ত।

বাঙালনামা।। আপনার ছোটবেলার কিছু কথা বলুন-

সুকুমার সমাজপতি।। আমাদের আদি বাড়ি, অর্থাৎ আমার বাবার ছোটবেলা কেটেছে ফরিদপুরে। আমার নিজের জন্ম মামাবাড়িতে, পাবনা জেলার রতনগঞ্জ গ্রামে। আমার বেড়ে ওঠা এরপর থেকে কলকাতাতেই, ছোটবেলায় সাউথ সাবার্বান ইস্কুলে ভর্তি হই। সেখান থেকে প্রথম বিভাগে ইন্টারমিডিয়েট উত্তীর্ণ হয়ে আশুতোষ কলেজে জিওলজি নিয়ে পড়াশোনা করেছি।

বাঙালনামা।। আপনার বাড়িতে কি খেলাধুলোর পরিবেশ ছিল? খেলার প্রতি আগ্রহ কি বাড়ির থেকেই পাওয়া?

সুকুমার সমাজপতি।। দ্যাখো, বাড়ির কথা বলতে গেলে বলতে হয়, সেদিক থেকে আমি ভীষণ ভাগ্যবান ছিলাম, খেলাধুলো এবং সংস্কৃতি-চর্চার দু’টো ধারাই আমাদের বাড়িতে সমান্তরালে বইতো। আমার বাবা, স্বর্গীয় কালিপদ সমাজপতি খুব ভালো আঁকতেন। এই যে দেওয়ালে অয়েল-পেইন্টিংগুলো দেখছো, এইগুলো ওঁর-ই আঁকা। তার সঙ্গেই উনি ফার্স্ট ডিভিশনে কালিঘাটের হয়ে ফুটবলও খেলতেন। আমার ঠাকুরদা, স্বর্গীয় নিবারণচন্দ্র সমাজপতি ছিলেন সেযুগের বিখ্যাত কীর্তন-গাইয়ে। কাকারাও খেলাধুলোয় উৎসাহী ছিলেন… তাই, খেলাধুলো নিয়ে উৎসাহ আমি বাড়ির সবার কাছ থেকেই পেয়েছি।

বাঙালির জাতিবিদ্বেষ ১৯০৫: গৌরব না লজ্জা

মধ্যমেধার অভিমানী খাচায় বাঙালিত্বের আহত বাঘ ফের গর্জে উঠেছে। ঢাকে ঢোলে, সেমিনারে, পদযাত্রায়, মায় দুর্গাপুজোর মণ্ডপকল্পনায় বঙ্গভঙ্গ বিরোধী আন্দোলনের শতবার্ষিকী আমোদ একেবারে থইথই। এই রাখিবন্ধনের পুনরাভিনয়, তো ওই প্রবন্ধপত্রের বিশেষ সংখ্যা। এই বামপন্থী কমিটির সাম্রাজ্যবাদ-বিরোধী পথসমাবেশ, তো ওই দক্ষিণপন্থী ক্লাবের দেশবন্দনামূলক নৃত্যনাট্য। সর্বরোগহর শতবার্ষিকী বটিকায় সব আছে— হিন্দু মুসলমান ঐক্য, মহিলামহলের সমর্থন, শিল্পের স্বদেশী জাগরণ, উপনিবেশবাদ বিরোধিতা, এমনকী রবীন্দ্রনাথকে পর্যন্ত হাতে কলমে জাতীয়তাবাদী প্রমাণ করার সুবর্ণসুযোগ। জাতিসত্ত্বার এমন আইকন-চর্চিত ও পলিটিকালি-করেক্ট ছায়াযুেদ্ধর দৃপ্ত মহড়া দেখতে দেখতে কোন পাষণ্ডের না চোখ ছলছল করবে?

এই মহাধামাকায় মিলনমেলায় বাদ সাধে, কার সাধ্যি! শুধু মনে করিয়ে দেওয়া যাক, বাঙালির অাত্মচেতনার এই বিশ্রুত অধ্যায়টির একটি প্রকট পরজাতিবিদ্বেষী মুখও ছিল, উৎসবের ঝলমলে ভঁাজে আজ যাকে সহজেই লুকিয়ে রাখা গেছে, অথচ দরকার পড়লেই আহ্লাদি হাসি গুটিয়ে যে মুখ বার করতে আমরা এখনও কুিণ্ঠত হই না। ২০০৫ কেবল ঔপনিবেশিক ষড়যন্ত্রের বিরুদ্ধে বাঙালি মধ্যবিত্তের জ্বালাময়ী প্যামেফ্লটশিল্পের একশো বছর নয়, তার নিজস্ব প্রভুত্ববাদের বিস্তৃত বয়ানের একশো বছরও বটে। িব্রটিশ-বিরোধী জাতীয়তাবাদের ছায়ায় লতিয়ে-ওঠা যে প্রভুত্ববাদ আমাদের জাতিচেতনায় আষ্টেপৃষ্ঠে, যার বিরুদ্ধে কোনও কথা শোনার আগেই আমরা জানি সে-সব প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল, বিচ্ছিন্নতাবাদী এবং সাম্রাজ্যবাদী প্ররোচনার শিকার।

The Silence of Marichjhapi

Transnational migration is experienced as a double loss — of origin and of reality; a ‘hyperreality’, as it were.  The representation of identity is, therefore, an ongoing process because immigrant identities are continually being transformed by the journey, their subjectivities being recomposed in ‘different practices and sites of experience’. Thus ‘home’ itself may be experienced in movement and has come to be conceptualized in fluid terms. The immigrants’ experience of the present is coloured with a persistent desire for return, a sense of deep nostalgia for their homeland.[1] Therefore, when thirty thousand migrants from Dandakaranya reached the small island of Marichjhapi to the south of Kumirmari of Sundarbans in April 1978, their primary desire was to settle down to conceptualize carefully what could be called ‘home’ in an altered reality.  The otherwise self-sufficient community life that took birth without the cooperation of the midwife named State could not, however, survive the rage of the establishment post 1979. It was then that Marichjhapi was successfully annihilated; silenced beyond a murmur.  This piece of semi-academic work shall try its best to document that voice of Marichjhapi before the silence. Marichjhapi, unfortunately has not been as well documented as Nandigram or if we look beyond national boundary, the Nazi Holocaust. However in recent times, owing to the persistent efforts of a fraction of the academia and intelligentsia like Ross Mallick, Annu Jalais, Tushar Bhattacharjee, Mahasweta Devi, Sunil Gangopadhyay and Jagadish Chandra Mandal, Marichjhapi has received a voice. Needless to say I have heavily relied on the available materials and documents to ponder why Marichjhapi Massacre happened and why Marichjhapi is still shrouded in silence.

বাঙালনামা – কী ও কেন ?

কোন এক কালে জনৈক মনীষী বলেছিলেন, “বাঙালী আত্মবিস্মৃত জাতি।” প্রসঙ্গত উল্লেখ্য, ভদ্রলোক প্রতিভাবান ও সত্যদ্রষ্টা ছিলেন বটে, কিন্তু সেই সঙ্গে ঘটিও ছিলেন। স্বভাবতই, এই ঘটিসুলভ সিনিক উক্তিটির যাথার্থ্য পুরো বাংলাদেশ জুড়ে প্রতিফলিত হয়নি। অন্ততঃ পদ্মার পূর্বদিকে যে হয়নি, সে কথা হলফ করে বলা যায়।
